Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 45nm Quad Core CPU review

The last time Intel moved an existing CPU line to a new manufacturing process was with the ill-fated Prescott CPU. Prescott was a derivative of the Pentium 4 architecture. Those were in the bad old days, where clock frequency was king and real men ran processors that generated blast furnace heat levels. Moving to 65nm was supposed to mitigate the Pentium 4's tendency to eat power like a pig in a slop trough. Alas, Prescott proved even hotter than its predecessor.

It wasn't until Intel shipped the Core 2 processor line that the company redeemed itself in the eyes of consumers and performance enthusiasts. And what a redemption: faster performance and lower power, albeit at lower clock rates. The Core 2 CPUs haven't officially hit the rarified clock rates of the old Pentium Extreme Edition 965, which ran at 3.73GHz and could fry eggs. Core 2 didn't need to run at those clock rates. Even at one gigahertz or less, Core 2 Duo proved faster and more efficient.

Now Intel is moving to a new manufacturing process: the "tick" in Intel's tick-tock mantra, where "tick" represents a move to a new, higher density manufacturing process, and the "tock" is a new microarchitecture. In this case, the move is to 45nm.

Let's take a look at what the move to 45nm will bring, and then we'll review the updated Core 2 architecture as it applies to Yorkfield—A.K.A. the Core 2 Extreme QX9650.

Report: Google phone platform due out in mid 2008

Google will come out in mid-2008 with a mobile phone platform that incorporates a variety of Google online services and lets outside developers create applications, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.
The goal is to make Google applications and services as easily accessible on mobile phones as PCs, so that the company can extend its advertising business to cell phones and other wireless devices. Google may announce its mobile platform within weeks, according to the Journal.
The Journal’s article, based on anonymous sources, is the latest of multiple reports over the past six months or so about Google’s plans for the mobile market.
Although at some point it was speculated that Google might be involved in the actual manufacturing of phone hardware, that rumor is now discredited, as Google is expected to focus on developing mobile software.

For Google, it’s critical to replicate on mobile phones the success it has had on PC-based online advertising. After years of unfulfilled promises, mobile advertising will boom in coming years, as people spend more time using the Internet via their cell phones.
The Kelsey Group recently forecast that mobile search and display advertising in the U.S. will hit $33.2 million this year and grow at a compound annual rate of 112 percent through 2012, when it will total $1.4 billion.
Kelsey Group also expects the number of mobile Internet users to grow at a 20 percent compound annual clip in the U.S. through 2012, when there will be almost 92 million people going online via their cell phones.

Worldwide, mobile ad spending is expected to reach US$1.5 billion this year and grow to $11.3 billion by 2011, according to market researcher Informa Telecoms & Media.
Google is far from alone in its interest at pursuing this emerging opportunity in the mobile market, where all major telecom, online publishing and Internet players are jockeying for position.
Of course, delivering online services and applications via mobile phones isn’t as straightforward as doing it via PCs. In the mobile market, providers of online applications often have to strike up deals and partnerships with handset makers and wireless carriers.
In a recent interview with the IDG News Service, Marissa Mayer, Google’s vice president of Search Products & User Experience, acknowledged there are specific challenges to bringing Google services to cell-phone subscribers.
“The mobile space is very complicated,” she said.
Google has pursued various avenues for making its search engines and other services available via cell phones. It has adapted Google Web sites for mobile browsers, developed mobile applications people can download themselves, as well as preloaded Google software in handsets via formal partnerships with mobile industry players.

Coming soon: phones on a plane

Plans have been developed across EU countries to introduce technology which permits mobile calls without risk of interference with aircraft systems.
Regulators around Europe are calling for consultation on the potential introduction of the technology.
If given the go ahead, the service would allow calls to be made when a plane is more than 3,000 metres high.
Individual airlines would need to decide if they wanted to introduce the technology, if the green light is given by national regulators.
A spokeswoman for Virgin Atlantic said the airline was "watching developments closely".
She said: "We are monitoring customer demand and will act if they say they want to use their mobile phones."
She added: "If we were to introduce this service in the future we want to ensure we do it in a socially acceptable way."
The European Union has recommended to member states that the plan go ahead and space on the airwaves has been reserved for the technology.
The cost of making a mobile phone call from a plane will be higher than making one from the ground. In the UK, regulator Ofcom said it would investigate and address any evidence of "excessive charges and abuses of competition" if prices were set unfairly by airlines and mobile networks

Nvidia's Latest PC Gaming Chip Goes On Sale

Nvidia's latest graphics processor for PC game enthusiasts went on sale Monday.
The GeForce 8800 GT is a lower-priced GPU in the 8 Series line that takes advantage of Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT)'s DirectX 10 graphics technology found in Windows Vista. PC games built for the platform include Crysis, Hellgate: London, and Gears of War.

The latest GPU has 112 stream processors and a 256-bit memory interface. It also includes the latest version of Nvidia's PureVideo HD (high definition) technology. Pricing for the GeForce 8800 GT falls between $199 and $259. The GeForce 8800 Ultra, for example, is priced at $590.

Each stream processor in the 8800 GT has been clocked at 1.5 GHz, with a memory interface running at 900 MHz. The GPU is designed for the new PCI Express 2.0 bus standard and is backward compatible with the original PCI Express standard.

The second-generation PureVideo is a video-processing engine for games in either the HD DVD or Blu-ray formats. The new technology takes on all of the HD H.264 video decoding, freeing the CPU to perform other tasks and significantly reducing power consumption, heat, and noise, Nvidia said. GeForce 8800 GT-based graphics cards are available in leading add-in card manufacturers, retailers, and system builders.

the difference between man and woman

A Very Good Indian Commercial

A rare rainbow of rare beauty

Noon, Saturday 3 June. Over the fields of northern Idaho, a rare and beautiful sight could be seen. Known as a circumhorizontal arc, it forms as sunlight is refracted through hexagonal ice crystals in cirrus clouds several kilometres above the ground. Sunlight enters a near-vertical face of each crystal and leaves from a horizontal face at the bottom. "Effectively the crystals act as a 90-degree prism for the passing rays," says Evelyn Hesse of the light-scattering group at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield, UK.
Circumhorizontal arcs occur when the sun is at more than 58 degrees above the horizon. "They are most unusual, and this is an impressive example," Hesse says.

£15m frenzy as miners discover world's biggest diamond

It might not be as big as the Ritz, but they say it's the size of a coconut.
The world's biggest diamond, weighing an astonishing 6,000 carats or 42oz, has reportedly been discovered in a South African mine.
That would make it twice as big as the previous record holder for a rough, gem-quality diamond, the 3,106-carat Cullinan found in 1905 near Pretoria.

Blu-ray Disc ?

Blu-ray, also known as Blu-ray Disc (BD), is the name of a next-generation optical disc format jointly developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), a group of the world's leading consumer electronics, personal computer and media manufacturers (including Apple, Dell, Hitachi, HP, JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, TDK and Thomson). The format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data. The format offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can hold up to 25GB on a single-layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc. This extra capacity combined with the use of advanced video and audio codecs will offer consumers an unprecedented HD experience.
While current optical disc technologies such as DVD, DVD±R, DVD±RW, and DVD-RAM rely on a red laser to read and write data, the new format uses a blue-violet laser instead, hence the name Blu-ray. Despite the different type of lasers used, Blu-ray products can easily be made backwards compatible with CDs and DVDs through the use of a BD/DVD/CD compatible optical pickup unit. The benefit of using a blue-violet laser (405nm) is that it has a shorter wavelength than a red laser (650nm), which makes it possible to focus the laser spot with even greater precision. This allows data to be packed more tightly and stored in less space, so it's possible to fit more data on the disc even though it's the same size as a CD/DVD. This together with the change of numerical aperture to 0.85 is what enables Blu-ray Discs to hold 25GB/50GB.
Blu-ray is currently supported by more than 180 of the world's leading consumer electronics, personal computer, recording media, video game and music companies. The format also has broad support from the major movie studios as a successor to today's DVD format. In fact, seven of the eight major movie studios (Disney, Fox, Warner, Paramount, Sony, Lionsgate and MGM) have released movies in the Blu-ray format and five of them (Disney, Fox, Sony, Lionsgate and MGM) are releasing their movies exclusively in the Blu-ray format. Many studios have also announced that they will begin releasing new feature films on Blu-ray Disc day-and-date with DVD, as well as a continuous slate of catalog titles every month. For more information about Blu-ray movies, check out our Blu-ray movies section which offers information about new and upcoming Blu-ray releases, as well as what movies are currently available in the Blu-ray format.

Model Falls into Runway Hole at Los Angeles Fashion Week, October 2007

Here’s a brief bit from the AP about a model falling into a hole in the runway during a show at the Mercedes-Benz Los Angeles Fashion Week for the Spring 2008 Ready-to-Wear Collections:
Fashionistas from Naomi Campbell to Carrie Bradshaw have made embarrassing missteps on the catwalk. But model Sarah Welch trumped them all when she fell through a hole during an L.A. Fashion Week show.
A video of Welch’s dramatic drop — a sensation on YouTube — shows her walking the runway at last week’s presentation of the fashion line Shadang. She stares blankly ahead, not noticing the gaping hole left where a martial arts performer had cracked open the floor with a flip.
“As a runway model, you have to keep your head up, you know,” Welch, a former contestant on “The Bachelor” reality series, told KABC-TV. “So I didn’t look down for a hole, particularly.”
Then came the plunge. In the video, the crowd is heard howling with apparent shock. Welch, waist-deep in the hole, struggles to lift herself out, and is helped by “Heroes” actor Jimmy Jean-Louis, who modeled at the event. She regains her footing and exits stage left, raising her fist to seemingly signal that she’s OK.
The video of the tumble, posted Thursday, had more than 1 million views on YouTube by Monday afternoon.

Welch, now an Internet celebrity, has a good sense of humor about it.

“It is just a really funny mishap. And I hope they’re enjoying watching it just as much as I am,” she said.

Airbus A380's First Flight, Join in!

The Super jumbo A380 made its debut flight to Sydney on October 25 this year with thousands of people bidding to get a seat in what is now the world's biggest passenger plane. It was handed over to Singapore Airlines at a ceremony at Airbus's headquarters in Toulouse, France, attended by over 500 people.

The Super jumbo plane has already managed to get about 165 orders to date. The plane has 12 suites each with sliding doors, a leather seat, a 23-inch LCD TV, a table and a full bed.

On board the first flight were over 450 and a crew of about 30 people including four pilots. Most of the seats were auctioned by Singapore Airlines on Ebay and raised about $1,26 mn for charity. The plane hit the ground and many top paying passengers were driven off in chauffer driven BMWs. The highest payer, an Australian millionaire, paid a whopping $100.380 for two suites! According to reports the plane is quite an experience with $18 bn development cost and gives a tough competition to Boeing 787 Dreamliner which is yet to take off. "From today, there is a new queen of the skies for air travel," is all that Singapore Airlines CEO Chew Choon Seng said about his proud possession. Seng also dismissed the rival 747 as a plane which "belongs to the past". The A380, as tall as a seven-story building, is about 30% larger than the 747. Each of its wings is big enough to hold 70 mid-sized cars.
With two passenger decks and room for a bar and shops, the A380 claims 50 per cent more floor space than the 747 and its designers boast it will introduce a new era of airborne luxury. On-board entertainment will include 100 movies, more than 180 TV programmes, 700 CDs and over 22 radio channels. The same entertainment box will include a word processor and 3D games. Besides the suites, the plane has 471 seats - 60 business class on the upper deck and 399 economy class on both decks. The total certified capacity is 853 passengers in an all-economy configuration.

What is a data entry job scam? What can you LOSE?

a data entry job is a temporary, part-time, individual and non-supervised job, which is purportedly offered by websites directly, or on behalf of the websites' "clients" What can you LOSE? Many things: first (and most important), as soon as you reply to a bogus job ads (data entry related or not), ads posted on dubious job boards, you will lose your identity (that is, the scammers will get your personal data and use it for fraudulent purposes - forget passports, forged driving licences, credit card applications, and so on); second, as soon as you register on data entry websites, you lose the money you paid for registration; third, as soon as the scammers have your credit card details, not only you might lose a lot of money, but you can also get into more complex financial problems.

Qualcomm chip can make laptops to ultilize cellular broadband services

NEW YORK - Qualcomm Inc. on Wednesday launched a chip that will make it easier to build laptops compatible with the two dominant cellular broadband technologies in the United States.
Currently, business-oriented laptops are generally available with chips for either AT&T Inc.'s, Verizon Wireless' or Sprint Nextel Corp.'s networks. AT&T's network uses a technology called HSPA, or High-Speed Packet Access, while Sprint and Verizon Wireless use EV-DO, or Evolution-Data Optimized.

Sister marries Brother

A Dalit girl, reported missing since October 7 and later traced by the police to Hulas Tola village in Bhojpur district of Bihar, stunned everybody by claiming that she had married her own brother.

Reema (name changed) of Ojhawalia Kalan village confessed before the police that she and her brother Krishna Ram had tied the knot about six months ago in a temple at Baraki Moaap Kalan village. "My husband has gone to Surat to earn money," she told.

Initially, they stayed with their parents but later, fearing that their secret would become public knowledge, the duo eloped. Reema said, Krishna had gone to Surat in Gujarat to earn a livelihood and left her in Hulas Tola village with one of his acquaintances, Dukhit Yadav.

Police on Tuesday took her for a medical examination and later produced her in the court of sub-divisional district judicial magistrate (SDJM) to record her statement. But, SDJM Paras Nath Roy refused to record her statement under Section 164 stating that the complaint was written in a 'station diary' and not as an FIR. Sub-inspector Mundrika Prasad said the girl was then handed back to her parents in the presence of the village mukhiya. Her husband Krishna was apparently unaware of these developments.

Try this Internet Safety Game and see how well you understand these

The Internet is a very PUBLIC PLACE. It is like the mall, or a parade, or the airport. People are moving in and out, and you are always bumping into someone you don’t know!
A few simple rules will help you be safe while on the Internet. These rules will help you be safe anywhere!

1. Never give out your real name. Keep this a secret. Make up a new name that you will use whenever you are on the Internet. Keep the names of your parents and family a secret too.
2. Never give out your address or where you go to school. Keep information about where you live PRIVATE.
3. Think about yourself on the Internet as a kind of everyday superhero. Hide your true identity! Always use an AVATAR to represent yourself on the Internet. An avatar is a picture or drawing that is unique to your personality but doesn’t look like you. When playing video or online games, the game gives you a character to play. This is an example of an ‘avatar:
4. Do not talk to strangers – even email or chat! - unless your teacher, parent or guardian has introduced you to them.

Mona Lisa (also known as the Monna Lisa; Italian La Gioconda; French La Joconde), is a painting by Leonardo da Vinci showing a woman with an introspective expression-perhaps smiling would be the wrong word. It is the most famous painting in the world, going so far as to be iconic of painting, art, and even visual images in general. No other work of art is so romanticized, celebrated, or reproduced. It was accomplished between 1503 and 1506. Today it hangs in the Louvre in Paris and is the museum's star attraction.

A Car That Runs on Air is Coming to India

Tata Motors, India largest automotive company, on Feb. 5, 2007 announced that it has signed an agreement with Moteur Development International (MDI) of France, inventors of the car, to develop a car that runs on compressed air, thus making it very economical to run and be almost totally pollution free. This article in Rediff India Abroad and the MDI website gives further details.

The air engine has 4 two-stage pistons, i.e. 8 compression and/or expansion chambers on one crankshaft. The pistons work in two stages: one motor stage and one intermediate stage of compression/expansion. They have two functions: to compress ambient air and refill the storage tanks; and to make successive expansions (reheating air with ambient thermal energy) thereby approaching isothermic expansion. It has injection similar to normal engines, but uses a special crankshaft and pistons, which remain at top dead center for about 70 degrees of the crankshaft's cycle; this allows more power to be developed in the engine. The engine is powered by compressed air, stored in a carbon-fiber tank containing 90 cubic meters (3178 cubic feet) of air at 30 MPa (4500 psi).

What is this graphic generator ?

Sign by Dealighted - Brijesh

The Danasoft graphic generator is something you can add to your MySpace profile, blog, forum posts, or your website. You can customize the graphic with your own messages. When people see the sign, they will see all sorts of spooky information about them, like their IP address, operating system (Windows, Mac), web browser type, along with your customized message at the bottom, published right on your profile, blog, or website. We also have a new city graphic that tells the person where they live, which is especially freaky. Whenever anyone visits a website, that website identifies the visitor's Internet connection by a code known as an IP address. Every computer has a unique IP address. What most people don't know is that the IP address itself contains all sorts of information about the visitor such as the physical location of that person's Internet provider (which is usually the same city as the visitor). The cool thing about this graphic is that when people see it, they think their private information (like their city or IP address) is being publicly shown on your Myspace profile, blog, or forum, and they think that other people can see their private info! Their first thought is, "hey, how did my IP address get on this website?!", or "why is this website telling people where are live?!" In reality, they are the only one that can see their private info, because the graphic is created in real-time for each person who sees is. When you see the graphic, you will see your IP. When others see the graphic, they will see their IP. Most of the blog widgets, Myspace graphics and Myspace generators out there are pretty junky. We think the danasoft graphic is a much more stylish way to jazz up your Myspace profile, your blog, or your website, and there's no better way to freak people out and make them think that you are publishing their private info. Of course, you can also customize the graphic with your own unique sayings: stuff like, "You are being tracked!", or "I am watching you.", or "You are not anonymous" - you can write anything you want to on your personal sign.
