How to Get a Six Pack - Common Myths and Misconceptions About Abs.

Myth #1 - Fat Makes you Fat. This is a diet tip but it's a very common misconception. Eating fat does NOT make you fat. The thing is, you need to know which fat to eat. You can't go around eating donuts and cookies. You do, however, need to make sure your diet consists of a good amount of nuts, extra virgin olive oil, avocados and other non-saturated fats. These will help melt the fat off of your abs to reveal that six pack you want
Myth #2 - You can spot reduce the fat on your stomach by doing hundreds of crunches and sit-ups a night. This is simply not true. There is no way to get rid of the fat in one area of your body. All you can do is eat right and exercise and the fat will come off of your body usually in the same order you gain fat. For most people, the layer over the abs is the last to go.
Myth #3 - You need to work your abs every day or you'll never see them. This ties in with #2. You do not need to do hundreds of sit-ups/crunches and you don't even need to work your abs every day. They're just like any other muscle and they need time to rest. You can work them 2-3 times a week and still have perfect abs. Overdoing it will not make them look better.

"SMART" Goal setting for weight loss

What goals are you setting for your weight loss and health? The setting of goals can really help you achieve weight loss or become healthier and fitter. Knowing how to set these goals is the first step in the process.

Goals which are set effectively are more likely to be achieved. The process of setting the goal plays a very important part. The reason many people don't achieve their goals is often due to how they set them.

What are well set goals? One method is known as setting SMART goals. SMART stands for :-

S :- Specific

M :- Measurable

A :- Achievable

R :- Realistic

T :- Time-bound

Specific - Ensure the goal you set is very specific, clear and easy. Instead of setting a goal to lose weight or be healthier, set a specific goal to lose 2cm off your waistline or to walk 5 miles at an aerobically challenging pace.

Keep the goal simple so it's easy to understand what you want to achieve. The goal needs to be important to you and exciting enough to prompt you to do what's necessary to achieve it. If the goal isn't important to you, I encourage you to drop it because you're not likely to achieve it and often end up feeling as if you've failed.

There are many goals you can set. Just choose one you really want to have as the end result.

Measurable - The goal needs to have a specific, quantifiable result or else it ends up just as "wishing". For instance, it isn't measurable to say you want to be healthier or feel fitter.

But it is measurable to say you want to be fit enough to swim 20 lengths of the swimming pool.

Achievable - Goals you set which are too far out of your reach, you probably won't commit to doing. Although you may start with the best of intentions, the knowledge that it's too much for you means your subconscious will keep reminding you of this fact and will stop you from even giving it your best.

A goal needs to stretch you slightly so you feel you can do it and it will need a real commitment from you. For instance, if you aim to lose 20lbs in one week, we all know that isn't achievable. But setting a goal to loose 1lb and when you've achieved that, aiming to lose a further 1lb, will keep it achievable for you.

The feeling of success which this brings helps you to remain motivated.

Realistic - Devise a plan or a way of getting there which makes the goal realistic. The goal needs to be realistic for you and where you are at the moment. A goal of never again eating sweets, cakes, crisps and chocolate may not be realistic for someone who really enjoys these foods.

For instance, it may be more realistic to set a goal of eating a piece of fruit each day instead of one sweet item. You can then choose to work towards reducing the amount of sweet products gradually as and when this feels realistic for you.

Time-bound - The goal should have a set time. If you don't set a time, the commitment is too vague. It tends not to happen because you feel you can start at any time. Without a time limit, there's no urgency to start taking action now.

Set goals with a definite time limit. For instance, aim to build up to 3 sessions of exercising a week, by the end of next month.

I encourage you to pick up a pen and a piece of paper and jot down the goals you want to reach on your journey to weight loss and health. Look at each goal and evaluate it. Make any changes necessary to ensure it meets the criteria for a SMART goal.

What I want is for you to set goals which work for you and are achievable.

Why Junk Food attracts us ?????

The Time Factor:
Junk food addiction is so high because of its simplicity. They are easy to prepare and are very tasty. Junk foods such as potato wafers and Cheetos® do not even need cooking or heating. You prefer to eat them when you watch TV. You save yourself a lot of hassles and time when you are in a hurry eating pizzas and burgers as they are served at your door step hot and ready to eat.
The Taste Factor:
If time constraint is one reason that pushes you to eating junk food, great taste also, to an extent influences you to opt for junk food. But junk foods get their taste owing to lavish usage of oils, salts and/or sugar. Once you are caught in junk food addiction, you find it hard to think about the loss of nutrition junk food pushes you into.
Junk Food Advertising:
In this internet age, when there are some good fitness sites like http://howtogetasixpack.com, we also have other sites that promote fat-packed foods and sell them like hot cakes.Foods prepared out side the home and restaurant foods have a great attraction for food buffs. One estimate tells us Fritto Lays is selling a billion bags of Cheetos® per year. It is an altogether different story that junk food advertising has a major role in this.

Jogging Tips

For some people jogging provides a great mental and physical release.  However, other people find jogging boring and unnecessary.  If you are one of the people who does not like jogging then this article is for you.  Today I am going to discuss five ways that you can make jogging more fun.

1) MIX UP THE PACE:- Jogging along for long periods of time at the same pace can get boring.  So why not mix it up by throwing in some sprints?  Perhaps you could jog for two minutes then sprint for one minute.  If you are listening to music why not jog during the verses and then sprint during the chorus?  By mixing up the pace at which you jog it suddenly becomes a lot more interesting as you rapidly change speed at regular intervals.
2) ADD SOME RESISTANCE:- One way to make jogging a lot more challenging is to add some resistance.  Adding resistance does make you slower but allows you to build strength as you jog.  On top of this adding resistance can be a good way to improve your overall jogging speed.  If you add resistance slowly and try to maintain your jogging speed then you should be able to jog faster once the resistance is removed.
There are many ways that you can add resistance as you jog.  One of my favourites is to wear a rucksack which contains a few bottles of water.  Another method is to wear ankle or wrist weights whilst you jog.
3) MAKE IT MORE PRACTICAL:- One of the reasons people find jogging boring is that they see no purpose to it.  They jog from point A to point B and then back to point A again and see this as a pointless exercise.  However, if you are jogging to get somewhere you need to be it becomes a lot more fun.
There are a number of ways you can make jogging more practical.  One of my personal favourites is to make it part of your weekly shop.  If the local supermarket is within jogging distance then take a large rucksack, jog down, do your shopping and jog back.  Not only will this save you a little petrol money but it will also add some resistance to your jog on the way back.  Whilst this idea is not feasible for everyone (if you are shopping for a full family you probably cannot carry it all in a rucksack) there are plenty of similar methods you can employ to make jogging more practical.  For example, if you are meeting family or friends locally why not jog instead of taking the car?
4) DON’T JUST JOG:- If you find jogging boring but really enjoy other exercises why not do both?  When jogging outdoors there is plenty of opportunity to do pull ups (just find a sturdy tree branch or use the climbing frame in your local park), press ups, sit ups, crunches, planks, leg raises, squats, stretches and more.  So if you really cannot stand long jogs why not jog for five minutes then do a few press ups?  After this jog for a few more minutes then do a few squats.  Alternatively why not try body weight soccer sprints.  By adding the above exercises to your jog you will not only make it more fun but you will also get a fuller workout and exercise more of your muscles.
5) MAKE A PLAY LIST:- For me music can really make or break a workout.  One of the best ways to add some excitement to jogging (if you do not particularly enjoy it) is to make a play list of your favorite tunes.  You can then listen to these tunes as you jog.  I find the time really flies by if you jog along to your favorite songs and it becomes a lot more fun as you jog to the music.
If you are not a fan of jogging then I hope this article appeals to you.  All the above are techniques I have used in the past to make my jogging more versatile and fun.  So if you find yourself avoiding jogging on a regular basis try one of my ideas.  You never know…you might even surprise yourself and enjoy it.

Disturbed lifestyle invites Anemia

Symptoms of anemia are simple but due to work pressure ladies don't take them seriously, resulting more and more ladies suffering from anemia. Today 60% women in the world are suffering from anemia, most of the women in India are suffering from anemia. It is also found in men but not in such a big proportion as it is in women.
Symptoms Of Anemia
Anemia means deficiency of Red Blood Cells in the blood. In this condition the blood becomes more fluid and flows with more speed, this makes the person feel like " Pumping" in his chest and his heart beats going up. In this condition when his heart is very much normal, he feel very tired after a little work. Red Blood Cells are also oxygen carriers of the blood, and their deficiency leads to lack of oxygen to the different body parts, which leads to Headache, weak memory, irritation, lack of concentration, black spots below eyes, insomnia and loss of weight.
Remedy for Anemia
For nutritional anemia we shall increase iron containing food stuffs in our daily diet. These includes green vegetables, onion, potato, apple, date, carrots etc. A very easy remedy for anemia is to cook your curries in iron vessels, this leads to iron inflow into the curry and it helps us to gain iron needed for our body.
Non-nutritional anemia is due to some other reason than nutritional deficiency, they are due to various factors for which you should consult your physician.
Aplastic anemia is due to deactivation of bone marrow, due to which red blood cells don't gets manufactured.
Familium Homiletic anemia is a genetic disorder. Many times an old infection may also leads to anemia.
Myths about Anemia
There are a lot of myths about anemia like:-
  - Pale skinned persons are anemic.
  - Hemophiliac women can't marry

this all is absurd as there is no connection of skin color with anemia. Hemophiliac women can definitely marry and can also get pregnant.
To avoid anemia we shall have healthy nutritional habits and shall avoid junk and fast foods which we prefer to have due to lack of time or bad nutritional habits.
